Getting a Library Card

All of Yakima County is within the service area of the Yakima Valley Regional Library. If you live or own property in Yakima County you may get a free library card, and use it in all nineteen (19) libraries in our district. The city of Grandview has its own public library; and Grandview residents may purchase a YVRL card at the nonresident rate. Others who do not live or own property in our service area may also be able too purchase a non-resident card.


Your first card is free! A replacement card costs $1.00.


You must present your library card every time you check out an item.

ADULT LIBRARY CARD

To apply for an adult library card:

  • Fill out the application form completely
  • Show identification that you reside within the Yakima Valley Regional Library service area
  • Show picture Identification

MINOR LIBRARY CARD

Children and minors under 18 years old must have their application signed by either their mother, father, or legal guardian. They do not have to show proof of their identity.

To apply for a library card for children and teens under 18 years old:

  • Fill out the application form completely. Either you or your parent may fill out the form.
  • Your mother, father, or legal guardian must sign your application, and provide a driver's license number or other identification.
  • Bring the finished application back to the library. Your parent or guardian does not have to come in with you as long as they have signed the form and given the needed information.

NON-RESIDENT LIBRARY CARD

To apply for a library card if you do not live within the Yakima Valley Regional Library service area:

  • Fill out the non-resident registration form completely
  • Fee for non-resident card is $65.00
  • For this $65.00 fee, cards will be issued for the head of household and other people living in the same household for whom he/she is financially responsible
  • Non-resident cards expire after one year

PROVISIONAL LIBRARY CARD

The Provisional Library Card is for people who live in our service district, but who do not yet have proof of current address(examples: new residents or people in transitional housing).

To apply for a Provisional Library Card:

  • Fill out the application form.
  • Show picture identification.
  • You are limited to two items at one time.
  • Those two items must be returned before more materials can be borrowed.
  • You may place holds and interlibrary loan request up to 5 items at a time.

Once you provide the library with proof of current address your card will be converted to regular status.
