History of the Sunnyside Library

The original Sunnyside Public Library was erected in 1911 with funds from the Carnegie Library Grants. Sunnyside began contracting with Yakima Valley Regional Library July 1, 1956, with Mrs. Elizabeth (Bess) Rinehold as librarian.

In 1963, the Carnegie Library was torn down and the new library, built on the same site, opened January 11, 1964. Mrs. Lois Hans was librarian during this transition.

In 2004, the Friends of the Sunnyside Library mounted a highly successful campaign to annex the Sunnyside Library to Yakima Valley Regional Library. The change from contracting to annexed status took effect January 1, 2005.
