History of The Moxee Library

The Home School Association of Holy Rosary School spearheaded the effort to have a Yakima Valley Regional Library branch in Moxee. The Association organized a group of service clubs, groups, and private citizens to raise the funds needed to provide a building, and the library opened on June 19, 1958.

The first library was located in a small portion of the old City Hall. The library has changed location several times. In 1961, when the new fire station was built, the town Council renovated the section vacated by the Fire Department for the library. In 1978 the library moved into a bookmobile while City Hall was remodeled. After the remodeling, City Hall took over the library's third of the building, and the library shared a trailer with the Police Department. Finally, in December 1979, the library moved into spacious quarters in the new Moxee City Hall complex.

In 1981, to insure consistent funding for the library, Moxee voters elected to annex to the regional library system in 1982. Moxee was the first city to annex to the system.
